Gorgeous Day

After a quick run to Billings to take care of some business, I went to the construction site.  While the last visit was a bit lacking in the photograph department, this week I could get inside the house now that the painter is nearly done.

It was a gorgeous day today and the prairie grass is green and dotted with wildflowers.   Meanwhile, most of the siding is now done.  What remains is bits and pieces which will be completed once the "tongue-in-groove" ceiling is installed everywhere...but first I have to stain it.  That starts next week when the materials arrive.

The master shower is nearly complete.  A couple of tiles are missing (they can't go in place until the electrician has connected the heated floor) and there's a bit of grout left to finish.  She (the tiler) will finish the grouting when she returns to tile the guest bathroom floors.

The painting inside is nearly complete.  The dining room needs a second coat of paint and then there are a few touch ups.

We're still weeks from moving in, but it sure is encouraging to see painted walls on the inside and siding on the outside.  Oh, and the garage is filling up with vanities, chandeliers, fixtures, and accessories.

A Little Catching Up

It has been reasonably quiet around here lately; well, quiet in terms of nothing interesting to report.  So, here is a little update on the not-worth-a-whole-post happenings. December 31st; I came home from running errands to find a herd of deer relaxing in our "yard".  About six of them got up and moved away but these two were pretty committed to staying put just outside our door. January 5th; We got a good Montana snow!  Montana has a completely different attitude toward snow from what we were used to in Vermont.  In Vermont, the municipalities would run the snow plows until there was no snow left on the road and many towns would haul snow away to clear parking areas. In Montana, it is assumed that you drive a suitable vehicle for the environment and have the sense to put on good snow tires.  Chains are an option here as well as studded tires.  Meanwhile, it's every driver for themselves.  The state will make sure that at least one lane (each directi...

Weekend Visit

We had a bit of a snowstorm on Thursday so I didn't journey out to Absarokee and instead stayed home to work on other things.  What I was really holding out for was a drive to the house with Jörg so we could discuss paint colors.  I have included a sneak peek below.  It was a beautiful sunny day so the snow was melting off the roof and dripping everywhere.  Normally I would say it was a beautiful sound, a harbinger of spring and warming weather.  However, living in Montana, this is just one of several such sunny drippy days and we could still have snow again before summer is officially here.  Anyway, the painter has begun the work of covering things that don't get painted (like the beams) and taping the windows.  He plans to start priming walls this week. Squall Season

It seems that we have entered the season of squalls here in Montana.  A squall is a sudden, localized, and short-lived storm which often brings rain or snow.  The squalls here are most often...snow. Today, we had just such a squall.  It last for about three minutes and resulted in little more than wet patio cement.  And just as quickly as it arrived, the clouds moved on revealing a blue sky and just a hint of sun.
