A Quiet Phase

With Christmas coming next week, things will be quiet on the construction site for about a week. However, today there was still action on the set.

The building crew was working on the roofing (this wonderful weather is perfect for the shingles) and recovering from yesterday's crazy winds.  As I mentioned in yesterday's post, this region saw some strong winds.  Near Livingston it caused the interstate to shut down rerouting trucks and travelers to the side roads.  In Absarokee, the wind blew lawn furniture around, and made a stir on the construction site.  Some underlayment (roofing prep before the shingles) pulled from the nails holding it down.  One of the temporary garage doors was blown out allowing some of the lumber inside (mostly scrap) to get "sucked" out of the garage into the driveway.  And lumber that had been neatly stacked on the property was blown around.  Oh yes, and the wind also knocked over the port-o-potty which was staked to the ground on four sides.  (While I was there, the company sent someone to tip it upright, stake it down again, and clean it.)

The insulation guys have done the foam and were getting the batting up.  They expect to finish tomorrow.

I finished my visit and then headed back to Livingston to take Katherine to work before going to Bozeman to pick up Joerg from the airport.  It was a beautiful sweater-weather kind of day.

They put expanding foam in the holes that enter the "cold zones" to prevent cold air from getting into the finished walls inside the house.

A little wind damage.

Shingles are in place on the east side of the garage.

Bundles of wiring run from the service panel in the garage to the rest of the house.

Bundles of shingles are lined up on the roof ready to be installed.

There's the toilet truck tipping our temporary commode upright and getting it cleaned up for use again.

The temporary garage door is gone and lumber blown out.

That had to be quite the wind to move 2x4 type lumber from the pile on the left out into the yard.  It's not like 2x4 lumber can get a good scoop of wind.

The picture doesn't pick it up well, but the wind blew gravel from our driveway until it hit this pile of dirt and stopped.  At the foot of the pile of dirt is several pounds of our driveway.
