Piano and a Party

Between Friday's last-day-of-school activities and banquet, and Sunday's graduation, is Saturday; a relatively quiet day.  I enjoyed a brief time putting around the garden (many new flowers and plants to put in the ground (and pots) that need water in the meantime), caught up on some emails, and then took Katherine to her final piano recital.  Since Katherine does have a relatively long history of spending piano recitals in the bathroom, her piano teacher of roughly ten years decided to record her last lesson.  That recording was played on-screen at the recital this afternoon, along with some others of students who couldn't be at the recital for one reason or another.

Katherine made me swear that I wouldn't plan a graduation party (remember, she's an introvert) like we did for Patrick so I promised; no beach, no cakes, no strangers, no party games.  Instead, we went to  Katherine's favorite place to celebrate (usually for her birthday once every year); it's a Japanese steakhouse called Koto's.  You sit around the cook surface where they do a show and cook your meal in front of you.

While I did promise not to have a graduation party, I did NOT promise that I wouldn't invite an extra guest to dinner.  Fellow graduate and Katherine's best friend, Gabby, joined us for dinner.  Quirky in her own right, Gabby gets Katherine and they have been friends most of the year.  Katherine was so pleased to see Gabby walk in to join us that I actually get to hear those words every mom longs for; "Best. Mom. Ever!"

After dinner, we paused in the parking lot for a few pictures of this duo.  Pardon the graffiti in the background.  Katherine insisted on having the derelict building as a backdrop.  *queue eye roll

One more day and these two goofballs will be FORMER high school students.
