More unpacking, settling in, and beautiful views

I will start this post with a view of our sunrise.  Sometimes the sun just pops right out and lights up the sky and sometimes it announces its arrival with a colorful horizon.


 With the sun coming up, it's time to work on the project room.  At the end of the garage, we added a "bonus room" which serve as an exercise space on one end and a crafting/sewing space on the other.  I built shelves and a work desk this week and unpacked all my knitting, sewing and embroidery, and general craft supplies.  Everything fits nicely into boxes with lids which tuck neatly into these white shelves.  Jörg came out and anchored the shelves to the walls to make them more stable...in case I should overload them or something.  Meeeee?  Put too much stuff on the shelves?  Not possible.  Then again...





The exercise end of the room still has boxes in it.  These are boxes for the office which we have not yet built out.  Once we do, the items in these boxes will find a home freeing up more floor space.

I am going to really enjoy working in this space!

Weekend Visit

We had a bit of a snowstorm on Thursday so I didn't journey out to Absarokee and instead stayed home to work on other things.  What I was really holding out for was a drive to the house with Jörg so we could discuss paint colors.  I have included a sneak peek below.  It was a beautiful sunny day so the snow was melting off the roof and dripping everywhere.  Normally I would say it was a beautiful sound, a harbinger of spring and warming weather.  However, living in Montana, this is just one of several such sunny drippy days and we could still have snow again before summer is officially here.  Anyway, the painter has begun the work of covering things that don't get painted (like the beams) and taping the windows.  He plans to start priming walls this week. A Little Catching Up

It has been reasonably quiet around here lately; well, quiet in terms of nothing interesting to report.  So, here is a little update on the not-worth-a-whole-post happenings. December 31st; I came home from running errands to find a herd of deer relaxing in our "yard".  About six of them got up and moved away but these two were pretty committed to staying put just outside our door. January 5th; We got a good Montana snow!  Montana has a completely different attitude toward snow from what we were used to in Vermont.  In Vermont, the municipalities would run the snow plows until there was no snow left on the road and many towns would haul snow away to clear parking areas. In Montana, it is assumed that you drive a suitable vehicle for the environment and have the sense to put on good snow tires.  Chains are an option here as well as studded tires.  Meanwhile, it's every driver for themselves.  The state will make sure that at least one lane (each directi...

Counting Down the Days

My trip to the house was quiet.  Except for the excavator putting in the last loop of geothermal tubing, I was the only one there.  My first mission on this day was to put a first layer of clear coat on the mantle (so that it's smooth and dust-able).   With that done, I could wander around and see what happened on Monday.  A small wall, overlooked on the house plan, has been installed and will hopefully get primer and paint this weekend. Interior doors are starting to go in. And here's the master bed WITH mattresses.  Now all we need is the bedding (and toilets, sinks, and showers) The excavator is bedding down the last loop of geothermal tubes. It looks stormy so it's a good time to head back to Livingston.
