Wrenching Headquarters (aka Man Cave)

Well, it used to be called "tinkering".  Apparently, like so many other things these days, it's been given a new cooler name; "wrenching".  That sounds a little too close to "retching" for my taste, and you definitely wouldn't want to get them confused.  You see, "wrenching" is simply tinkering when it involves a motorcycle. Retching, on the other hand, involves revisiting what you had for lunch...ick.

Now that we have a complete set; a BMW R1150R (that's mine) and a BMW R1150GS (that's his) the motorcycle tinkering can begin.  Oh, wait, sorry.  Let the "wrenching" begin.  But first we have to order a bunch of stuff; filters, spark plugs, battery, oils, and tools.  We mustn't forget the tools.  Tinkering is a waste of time if you don't have tools.

Joerg spent a couple of hours this weekend in the garage getting things neat and tidy.  Then he installed suspended shop lights over the area where he parks his car.  This will be "Wrenching Headquarters".  His first project was replacing the battery on my bike, installing a GPS cable (which attaches to that new battery), and changing the fuel filter and air filter.  Next up will be tune ups and oil changes for both bikes.

Now, to most people (at least most people *I* know) this sounds like the perfect job for a bike mechanic; the kind you drive to, and sit reading a book while he does all the work.  But, Joerg isn't "most people".  Where I see the guts of C3PO spilled out on my garage floor, Joerg sees stuff to tinker with, things to explore.  With every action, he gets to know the bike in a way that only The Mechanic can.  He will know my bike in a way that I never will.  And I'm okay with that. :)

So, with a little eighties music playing in the background, he finds relaxation and calm, and a little connection to his youth. When he's done, we will have two motorbikes ready for a summer of riding.
